Macaroni KID readers visit the event calendar often to make plans for their family. We reach thousands of parents in Durham & Chapel Hill each week.
Our community event listings are FREE but require approval from Macaroni KID before publication. Please review the following before submitting an event listing.
The event calendar is designed for parents to view the local options open to their family that day (unless an event is sold out or canceled due to weather).
Thus, please do not submit the following as events (they will not be approved):
- Summer camps that require registration for more than a single day. We do not list week-long camps on our calendar.
- Multi-day events that require attendance to all sessions (example: babysitting or lifeguard training). You may list the first day of the event, but not future days since the general public is not eligible to attend.
- Private events such as those only open to students from a particular school or a club that requires a membership that cannot be obtained the day of the event. Our calendar is intended for public events.
- Adult-only events that are not focused on parenting. We include workshops or other events for parents but our main focus is family-friendly events.
- Discounts or sales. We may include the Library's Big Book Sale but typically do not list business discounts or sales as events. Email us at rachelc@macaronikid.com if you'd like to review advertising options to highlight your sale.
- Events too far from Durham or Chapel Hill. While we include major performances and special events outside our area, we primarily focus on local events.
- Private School Admissions Events can be included on our event calendar for a fee and will be marked as "sponsored". Please email rachelc@macaronikid.com for details.
How it works:
- Complete this form. Please do not use all capital letters in your submission. Approval of submissions requiring extra formatting or editing by Macaroni KID may be delayed or declined. Our goal is for the calendar to be visually appealing and easy for parents to navigate.
- Event submissions are typically reviewed and approved within 48 hours. Feel free to email us at rachelc@macaronikid.com to alert us to your submission for quicker turnaround. You will not receive a notice that the event is published.
- If your event is appropriate for the calendar of our sister site (Chapel Hill, NC) we will copy it there.
- Only owners or authorized employees of the business should submit an event listing to ensure the accuracy of information.
- If key information about your event (date, time, location, etc) change after you submit it, please email us so we can adjust your listing. We typically do not remove events due to weather cancellation since we include a note to check with event organizers in the event of bad weather.
- Macaroni KID reserves the right to refuse any event or advertisement for any reason. We do not accept religious or political advertising.
